Day 2: Leavenworth - Kansas City

This morning, our step-on guide will show us Fort Leavenworth, the oldest active military post west of the Mississippi River. Visit the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, dedicated to telling the remarkable story of Charles Wallace Parker, the “Carnival King” and ride on a restored 1913 carousel with wooden, hand-carved ponies, jackrabbits and benches for disabled riders. We will enjoy lunch served by ladies dressed as “Harvey Girls” and after lunch have a fun and informative presentation on Fred Harvey’s history and his connections to Leavenworth. We depart the “First City of Kansas” and travel to The Heart of America-Kansas City. We visit the Arabia Steamboat Museum and journey back through time to 1856, America’s “Golden Age” of steam boating and follow the shipwreck of the Great White Arabia. Our next stop is Country Club Plaza. What began as a single strand of lights over a store entrance in the early 1900s has evolved into a living legend with one of the most spectacular holiday lighting displays in the nation. The rest of the evening is yours to have dinner, explore and shop at the Plaza before we check into our hotel in Blue Springs. (B,L)

After dinner, we go to the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, where we’ll see the annual production of the Charles Dickens holiday classic “A Christmas Carol.” For over 40 years, Kansas City’s beloved tradition has created holiday memories.
